You want to know about me? I really don't know why -- I'm just not that interesting. But okay -- here goes.
I've been a paramedic for a lot of years now. I mean, it's just what I've always wanted to do. I saw paramedics literally saving lives -- and I said to myself - I want that. I want to help people. I want to make a difference.
So I rose through the ranks. I developed a partnership with Jerry, and he became like a member of my family. He was there with me through a lot. When my love and soul mate, Debra, passed away, he was there for me. In turn, I was there for his family when Jerry got shot.
Debra was everything to me. Which is why it was a slow road when I met Dr. Morales. But she was just... she was an amazing woman. And she and I just clicked on so many levels. Which is why it nearly devestated me when she moved to Philadelphia without me. She's married now, and she has a kid. I truely hope she's happy.
Anyway - for the past few years, I was partnered up with Nieto. He was the new kid on the block, and being the good teacher that I am, I helped him rise through the ranks.
Towards the middle of last year, the day that Alex and Lieu died, in fact, I was given a promotion - the opportunity to ride a desk downtown. I took it. I just couldn't handle having so many people be under my responsibility anymore.
So Kim took my old job. But then, I decided that I didn't want to be behind the desk anymore. So I'm back in my old place. At least, that's what I tell everyone. I mean, what would they think if Doc Parker, best paramedic in the city, was demoted? It just wouldn't do. So I'm back where I belong - performing miracles, and making things better for mankind. I mean, I am good at what I do. It's like a gift, you know? A gift that only very few are blessed with.
Oh yeah.. that kid I beat up? He deserved it. He didn't show up that first day, and it's his fault that Alex is dead. His fault. And I'm glad he quit. He didn't have what it took to be a paramedic anymore.
Not like me. I'm a good paramedic.
Oh yeah. There's this guy.... this guy who is the new captian of the firehouse, and who is apparently Doherty's replacement and ultimately Lt. Johnson's replacement. I know him. I know what he does. That guy... he shuts down firehouses. I'll be damned if he's gonna shut down this one. Because this is where I belong. Where we all belong.
It's a gift. And that man isn't going to take it away.
Interviewer's Note: In April of 2004, Doc held the folks at the firehouse hostage, and was taken away to Bellvue after shooting the new captain. He is very much missed at the firehouse.
